“As a Ford shareholder, I think I would demand that they tell me and report what went wrong if an entire factory turned up missing.

Nonsense, he can know how advertisers are bypassing his web browsers' pop up window blockers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop-up_ad#Circumventi ...As explained on the web page cited above, they use Adobe Flash or other technologies.A plugin or signed ActiveX control can basically do anything and do so without the browser's permission/awareness. An ActiveX control, you gave YOUR permission to do Everything when you downloaded it or ran it the first time, usually.ActiveX is only supported by the IE browser though. Last time I checked it will not affect Firefox or Safari, even on MS-Windows. Those two web browsers just support plugins - not ActiveX.Lots of browsers have Flash preinstalled these days. In fact, it is becoming comon for the two biggest commercial operating systems to come with it pre-installed.For some reason, Apple included it in Snow Leopard (10.6 Mac OS X) that was just released this summer and Microsoft is including it on their "Microsoft signature" PCs they sell.Flash burns CPU time when Flash components are loaded and it burns more while they are running. Flash does not seem to have any kind of a Dashboard that tells how many or what Flash components are running on each tab or window of your web browser, nor how much memory and CPU time they are burning.Worse, Flash seems to get exploited by hackers a lot. And yes, for years advertisers have been bypassing pop up blockers by simply using Flash to pop up a Window.Look into using Firefox more and using NoScript and perhaps Adblock Plus addons. Or, if you use Safari on the Macintosh (not sure about on MS-Windows) you can get the Click To Flash WebKit plugin. It blocks flash initially but still allows you to let it run in cases where you want it too. Its name tells you how.Click To Flash has another benefit. For services like YouTube, you can let the service know you want to see the video it is offering you in H.264 rather than Flash format. H.264 is probably safer for your computer and smoother display to you. I may be wrong but I suspect that the H.264 video probably gobbles fewer resources than Flash too.?
Yes. You're missing the appreciation of pointless things designed to make you smile. |

Damnit. Why does everything have to turn in to a party war? I'm so sick of people pointing the blame. Do you really want to know who's fault it is? It's your fault. Why? Because you refuse to stand up to these corporations. You refuse to stand up to the politicians. You refuse to do anything but bitch. And that's more sad than any ***** political ***** you can spew out. The government should fear you, these businesses should fear losing you as a consumer. If the people in Massachusetts were smart, they'd go down to Boston and protest for some sort of government imposed sanction against Evergreen Solar doing business in the state. Now I'm not certain that's even possible, or what the route would be - but I honestly would hope that something came out of it to send other companies a message "you're not going to get money if you are going to or have shipped jobs overseas." Honestly, I don't care what they do as long as the message is clear: QUIT YOUR STUPID ***** *****.But even more obvious, the government should keep taxpayer money out of private companies - PERIOD. Either let them fail or make a viable alternative.

Yeah, we're *****. And yes, the system is impossible to change.Who makes the laws in our country? Our Congressmen, who are elected into office through votes. But how do they fund their campaigns? By taking in donations and giving more attention to those who contribute the most in donations to their campaigns. And who can contribute the most money to gain the most influence from our Congressmen? The corporations who would rather pay billions every year to politicians for their influence so they can maintain high executive salaries rather than pay that money directly to their workers for things like health insurance and retirement plans. So the only way we can circumvent corporate influence over our lawmakers is to implement the ability for voters to pass referendums to federal law. Unfortunately, we do not have a proviso in the Constitution that allows voters to practice direct democracy on the federal level. So until that time, we'll just have to deal with the corporatocracy our nation has evolved into. |
